There have been men’s German singing groups in the Peoria area since the 1800’s. The Harmonie Singers originated in 1967 and in 2008 merged with Concordia, a hundred+ year old singing organization. This group strives to preserve the German traditions through both German and American music. Harmonie, along with The Kaiser Wilhelm Ratskeller Brummers, our sponsored band, have established the Richard P. Wolfe Scholarship, an annual music scholarship to Bradley University. This is one of the many community activities that Harmonie provides.
You do not have to be a singer to join our organization. We have many other activities. We sponsor the Bratfest at Hickory Grove Park, sell German food during Oktoberfest at the Peoria Riverfront and participate in both regional and national Sängerfests. Both a member party and appreciation dinner is held in the fall. The fellowship shared among members is the strength of our club.
We encourage everyone to get involved and have a place and a need for every member’s special talent. Our meetings are at 7:00 the first Wednesday of the month, at the Lindenhof, October thru May, and at Hickory Grove, weather permitting, June thru September. A potluck dinner is held one hour prior to all meetings.
