SVP Match Report - Auburn Hills, MI
19 Sportverein Peoria (SVP) shooters participated in a smallbore rifle "Friendship Shoot" as part of the Auburn Hills, Michigan Spanferkelfest (Roast Pig Festival) on June 15th. The match took place on the club grounds of the Deutsch Amerikanische Schuetzen Verein (DASV) at their Safety Range, where shooters fire through a concrete culvert to ensure that all bullets are safely contained on the range. Shooters fired six shots each, with Anschuetz .22 caliber match rifles, from standing with a half-support, at targets 75 feet away.
SVP entered a men's team and a ladies team to compete with the teams from Auburn Hills, Detroit-Area Kolping and Cincinnati. The team match was very close, with all teams finishing within a couple dozen points of each other. The SVP men's team, however, prevailed, with Auburn Hills finishing right on their heels. Paul Bishop took high individual honors with 59 points out of a possible 60, while Ross Baer and Bryan Brown tied for third place overall. Jane Klockenga won the award for highest score on the ladies' team, and Terry Beachler and Pat Emery were awarded "Zielwasser" (aiming fluid) which is a necklace with a bottle of Jaegermeister as the pendant, to assist them in aiming at the next match.
The match was followed by the Spanferkelfest, with its tents, pavilions, roast pig dinner, a polka band and a well-stocked bar. Members enjoyed the evening well past sundown, despite the occasional drizzle. We look forward to our next opportunity to attend the DASV's events.
